Last year’s New Swan Shakespeare lineup featured a disco-themed version of “The Comedy of Errors.” This year, New Swan is adding a magazine to its repertoire and seeking Bard-related art and poetry for the first issue. Scroll down for details.

Grabbing a Golden Goose

A freak laboratory accident in 1993 set off a chain of events that led to the invention of a laser device that has improved the eyesight of millions. Two decades later, the discovery was saluted with Golden Goose Awards for everyone involved, including Tibor Juhasz, a professor of ophthalmology and biomedical engineering at UCI. The Golden Goose honors “unusual, odd or obscure” research that eventually produces important benefits to society.

Shakespeare art sought for new UCI magazine

To paint or not to paint? That is the question as UCI’s New Swan Shakespeare Center seeks Bard-inspired artwork, poetry, photography and more for its new magazine. Submissions are due by midnight Feb. 8.

To boost public interest in infrastructure projects, the Portland, Oregon, branch of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers superimposed gigantic cats onto dams, jetties and other scenes in its free, downloadable 2023 calendar. Below, in the interest of animal equal time, is a winner from 2022’s Dog Photography contest, which draws entries from around the world:

Close contacts to a COVID-19 case are not required to stay home or quarantine, but should follow guidance for close contact instructions for masking and testing on the UCI Forward page.

UCI provides this notification of a potential workplace COVID-19 exposure. Employees and subcontractors who were in these locations on the dates listed may have been exposed to the coronavirus.
