How poor sleep hurts health of Chinese and Korean Americans

A new study by public health researchers from UCI and the University of Michigan linked sleep disturbances and sleep apnea to multiple chronic diseases among Chinese and Korean Americans. The study was conducted to fill a gap in previous research, which focused mainly on white people. The lack of data on Asian groups worried clinicians because of preliminary studies showing Asian Americans sleep less than white Americans.

Sisters describe life after organ donation

Sisters describe life after organ donation

UCI Health’s kidney transplant program, Orange County's oldest and largest, has a wait list of nearly 800 patients, most of them Spanish-speaking. Nadia Morales donated a kidney to her sister Xenia in 2014. After Xenia regained her health, she completed a psychology degree, applied for a master’s program and just married her high school best friend. The wedding was attended by Xenia’s nephrologist and transplant surgeon, both affiliated with UCI Health. The sisters are hoping their story will inspire other donors. Patients often wait up to a decade before a donor is found. The photo at left shows new bride Xenia with her sister and maid of honor, Nadia.
