A $14 million grant from the Irvine Health Foundation will pay for seven endowed chairs in UCI’s Program in Public Health, funding that will support research to help the university’s mission to improve health equity for Orange County residents. “This generous grant will have a lasting impact on the health and well-being of all Orange County residents and ensures that progress in advancing health outcomes will continue for years to come,” said UCI’s Bernadette Boden-Albala (pictured above with Irvine Health Foundation Board Chair Timothy L. OC’s UCI-crafted Young Adult Court adds 4 new grads

In the latest sign of success of the Orange County Young Adult Court, which is a pilot project created in part by a UCI professor, four young Orange County men had felony convictions expunged from their records in March. Launched in August 2018, the YAC is a collaborative court for first-time felony offenders between the ages of 18 and 25. It was created through the efforts of Elizabeth Cauffman, UCI professor of psychological science; Orange County Superior Court Judge and UCI alumna Maria Hernandez; Cauffman’s former postdoctoral student Zachary Rowan, who is now an assistant professor of criminology at Simon Fraser University in Canada; the Orange County Probation Department; the Orange County Public Defender and Defense Bar; the Orange County District Attorney’s Office; and the Orangewood Foundation. UCI dean discusses trust in today’s workplace

Thanks in part to the COVID-19 pandemic, many employers have complained about a so-called talent crisis, driven by increased difficulties in finding employees willing to work under pre-pandemic conditions. Trends such as “The Great Resignation” and “quiet quitting” have forced companies to examine how they manage their labor force. In a new essay, Ian Williamson, dean of UCI’s Paul Merage School of Business, argues that the crisis isn’t really one of talent, but rather of leadership.
