The UC Natural Reserve System is a collection of 41 ecosystems throughout California. Most of the state’s major habitat types are represented at these sites, from coastal tidepools and inland deserts to lush wetlands and redwood forests. No other network of field sites can match its size, scope and ecological diversity. The NRS offers outdoor laboratories to scientists, classrooms without walls for students and nature’s inspiration to all. UCI manages three of these sites, including the San Joaquin Marsh Reserve on campus.
