UCI ANNOUNCEMENTS AND NEWS

Program trains researchers to study dangerous pathogens

Class members in the UCI National BSL-3 Training Program learn proper procedures in the center’s own fully-functional BLS-3 lab.

Much of today’s research on coronaviruses and other harmful pathogens takes place in specialized, high-containment facilities known as biosafety level 3 laboratories. Many who work in and manage these labs turn to the UCI National Biosafety Level 3 Training Program, which in 2016 was designated as an NIH National Training Center and has now trained more than 3,000 people.
