Professor challenges idea that social media fuels mental health crisis

Candice Odgers, a UCI professor of psychological science
The notion that social media is harmful for children’s mental health has become almost a common-sense assumption for most people. But Candice Odgers, a UCI professor of psychological science, says evidence is lacking for that argument. “There doesn’t seem to be an evidence base that would explain the level of panic and consternation around these issues,” Odgers told The New York Times. Odgers has published a new work on the subject in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry.

Fraudulent bank accounts hit UCI community

UCI Information Security reports “a new wave of fraudulent activity” tied to Chime and Go2Bank. Unauthorized accounts have been opened using UCI members’ personal information and victims then receive requests to click on links or transfer funds via UCI email, personal email and/or a letter and debit card sent to their mailing address.
