UCI leads regional project to reduce climate change risks in California
A multidisciplinary team of UCI researchers in collaboration with cohorts from UC Riverside and UC San Diego, will lead a project that enables tribes and community groups to partner with universities and land managers to reduce climate change risks. Thanks to a $5.5 million matching grant from the UC Office of the President, the Wildland-Urban Interface Climate Action Network will fund community leaders in assessing needs for climate action and producing science-based and community-driven best practices for dealing with climate risks.

UCI expert evaluates newly approved RSV therapy

Respiratory syncytial virus is the leading cause for hospitalization among infants in the U.S., and until recently, there were no treatments available to prevent severe illness in infants or older adults. But this past July, the Food and Drug Administration approved a monoclonal antibody therapy for infants and toddlers who are at a heightened risk of severe disease from RSV. Dr. Coleen K. Cunningham, chair of pediatrics at UCI’s School of Medicine, spoke with The New York Times about how the anatomical differences in infants' respiratory systems contribute to their heightened vulnerability to RSV complications.
