UC applauds move against ACA 6
The University of California released a statement yesterday thanking the state Senate committee on elections and constitutional amendments for voting not to advance Assembly Constitutional Amendment 6. ACA 6, which would have governed prevailing wage rules for UC employees, “would have treated the UC differently from every other academic institution, whether public or private,” according to the statement.

Alumna honored as ‘Innovator of the Year’
|
|
|
Newport Beach attorney and UCI alumna Jennifer Friend (left) was honored by the Orange County Business Journal as an “Innovator of the Year” for her leadership of Project Hope Alliance, a charity group which helps homeless O.C. families with academic programs for their kids and financial aid for the parents. As a teen, Friend’s family fell on hard times and bounced from motel room to motel room. She eventually went on to become a successful civil attorney, but in 2012, gave up her partnership in a large law firm to run the charity organization.
