Anteater Time Machine: In 1987, a jester performs at UCI’s annual Madrigal Dinner, a seven-course yuletide feast and show that was coordinated for many years by music professor Joseph Huszti. The 16th-century-themed dinners featured wandering minstrels, magicians and more.

How parents can encourage giving in kids
Gustavo Carlo is a professor of education and developmental psychologist at UCI who studies positive social development and health in culturally diverse children and adolescents. This holiday season, Carlo suggests several ways parents can foster healthy giving, starting with being a positive role model through frequent giving and charitable acts in front of their children. “Second, provide ample opportunities for children to practice giving, not just to family members, but to persons who come from different backgrounds,” he says. Third, acknowledge and reinforce giving behaviors “with affection, warmth and praise, so [children] develop a moral identity as someone who is good.”
