A breakthrough in quantum computer materials

Luis A. Jauregui, a UCI professor of physics & astronomy.
UCI and Los Alamos National Laboratory researchers have discovered a method that transforms everyday substances like glass into materials scientists can use to make quantum computers. Conventional computers use silicon as a conductor, but silicon has limits. Quantum computers could bypass these limits, and methods like those in the new study will help such computers – which are currently rare – become commonplace, according to lead researcher Luis A. Jauregui (above), a UCI professor of physics & astronomy.
