Stormwater pollution prevention
Stormwater pollution occurs when rainwater washes over surfaces and collects various contaminants, eventually draining into nearby bodies of water. Pollutants such as oil, chemicals, trash and pet waste can harm local ecosystems and human health. Simple steps, such as disposing of trash in designated bins, cleaning up after pets and maintaining vehicles to prevent oil leaks, can significantly reduce pollution. For more information, visit UCI’s stormwater management site.

Fundraiser boosts Psychological Services Center
A Feb. 1 fundraiser organized by Diana and Peter Morris collected $13,000 for the School of Social Ecology’s new Psychological Services Center. The event honored the life of the couple’s daughter, Shannon, whose mental health struggles ended in suicide. The center trains doctoral students in clinical psychology. Under the supervision of licensed psychologists, PSC trainees provide low-cost psychotherapy for adults. According to psychological science professor Jason Schiffman (above right with PSC director Naomi Tabak, fourth from left), the center plans to expand its services to provide therapy for children and adolescents.
