UCI Podcast: Bridget R. Cooks takes us inside the Met
Bridget R. Cooks, a professor and Chancellor’s Fellow of art history, has done lots in the art world, transitioning from a young artist to a dedicated art historian. A decade after the 2013 publication of her first book, Exhibiting Blackness: African Americans and the American Art Museum, she was invited to participate on the advisory committee for a six-month show at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art titled “The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism.” In this episode of the UCI Podcast, Cooks explains the Harlem Renaissance and how time spent at a museum can benefit everyone.

Lincoln Project veteran joins UCI as fellow

Mike Madrid, a co-founder of the Lincoln Project, will serve as a School of Social Ecology senior fellow this spring and fall, bringing a state and national perspective to the school’s “Red County, Blue County, Orange County” project. Madrid, who is no longer affiliated with the Lincoln Project, is a veteran political consultant and an expert on Latino voters. He is a partner in GrassrootsLab, a political consulting firm in California, and is the author of a forthcoming book The Latino Century: How America’s Largest Minority is Shaping Democracy. His experience as a senior adviser to the campaigns of both Democrats and Republicans will provide a rare perspective to UCI students in today’s polarized political climate.
