UC Irvine scores high in Princeton Review, Money ratings

Student Center
The Princeton Review chose UC Irvine as the fifth-best-value public college in its 2024 ranking of U.S. universities. The ranking is based on academic quality, costs, financial aid, debt, graduation rates, and alumni career and salary data. And for its 2023-24 Best Colleges in America list, Money gave UC Irvine a five-star rating, the highest possible for the online survey. The university was lauded for its top-quality education, affordability and student outcomes, particularly the graduation rate of Pell Grant recipients – 3,736 of whom earned bachelor’s degrees this month. Overall, 49 percent of 2024 graduates were first-generation students.

Hoover Institution recognizes professor’s age bias research

Despite potential long-term labor shortages in part caused by a declining birth rate, employers continue to use subtle, discriminatory language in job ads, discouraging older workers from even applying and remaining part of the workforce. UC Irvine economist David Neumark argues that combating such discrimination is critical to leverage the skills of older Americans who wish to remain employed, boost their well-being and financial security, and support nationwide economic prosperity. In the Hoover Institution’s latest Policy Brief, Neumark expands on his groundbreaking research on age bias in job postings.

Rise in child deaths largely preventable, says UCI Health pediatrician

New research shows that child deaths are increasing, with Black and Native American youths ages 1 to 19 dying at higher rates than white youths, mostly as a result of car accidents, homicides, suicides and other injuries. UCI Health pediatrician Dr. Coleen Cunningham says that almost all of the deaths are preventable.
