Beginning July 1, four faculty members will join the School of Law: Robert S. Chang, Andrew Gold, Susan McMahon and L. Song Richardson (above, from left). It’s a homecoming, too, for Richardson, who was dean of UCI Law from 2018-21. The quartet’s areas of research and scholarship encompass corporate law, criminal law, criminal procedure, experiential legal education, fiduciary law, law school pedagogy, mental health, private law theory, and race and interethnic relations. Their arrival coincides with other developments in UCI Law:  the coming of the Fred T. Korematsu Center for Law and Equality; the creation of an institute focused on issues of leadership, equity and fairness to be launched over the coming year; the expansion of activities with the Center for Legal Philosophy, a joint endeavor of UCI Law and the School of Humanities; and the further development of its nationally acclaimed lawyering skills program.

Dr. Michael J. Stamos, dean of School of Medicine.
University and community guests recently gathered to celebrate the 7,700 square-foot Good Manufacturing Practice facility’s grand opening in Hewitt Hall’s basement. Although the highly sterile environment remains off-limits for tours, the gala highlighted its importance to the campus, the UC system and the local community. This facility will produce FDA-compliant cell and gene therapies, which are at the forefront of medical science’s promise for the future. In addition, researchers and scientists will use next-generation automated processing and manufacturing technologies to produce the transformative therapies essential for clinical trials, said Dr. Michael J. Stamos (above), dean of School of Medicine.
