The UC Irvine Logic & Philosophy of Science Summer Diversity Program students

The UC Irvine Logic & Philosophy of Science Summer Diversity Program concluded its third-annual five-day program for underrepresented students interested in graduate studies in logic and philosophy of science. Funded by the National Science Foundation and the School of Social Sciences, and directed by associate professor Lauren Ross, the program offers participants a no-cost opportunity to study complex philosophical topics, connect with leading scholars and experience campus life. This year’s cohort included 17 students coming from locations as near as Irvine and as far as the Netherlands, China and Mexico. “A main aim of our program is to provide much needed resources and support for students pursuing their interests in logic and philosophy of science,” said Ross. “Our cohort this year had especially wide-ranging interests and academic backgrounds, which led to fantastic discussions among the participants, grad students, and faculty.”

UC leaders support passage of state donor milk bill

University of California leaders are celebrating the successful passage of AB 3059, a pivotal step toward addressing disparities in accessing donor milk, a life-saving nutrition source for babies in need. While the bill passed by both the California State Senate and Assembly, lawmakers await the Governor’s signature to make it law. “Donor milk access is critical for the well-being of newborns and their families,” said UC President Michael V. Drake, M.D. “We are grateful for Assemblymember Weber’s leadership on AB 3059 and are encouraged by its recent passage out of the legislature. As the bill moves to the Governor’s desk, the University of California is proud to work together toward a future where vulnerable babies have easier access to essential nutrition.”
