UC Irvine again ranks among nation’s top 10 public universities

UC Irvine has been ranked ninth among the nation’s public universities and 33rd overall in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2024-25 list of “Best Colleges,” released today. This is the 10th consecutive year in which the school has placed in the top 10. The overall rating of 33rd is its highest ever, matching its position in 2019 and last year. “We are all very pleased that U.S. News & World Report has once again recognized the distinguished excellence of our teaching, research and public service,” said UC Irvine Chancellor Howard Gillman. “Being in the top 10 is especially gratifying in light of our commitment to inclusive excellence and educating our state’s best and most talented students regardless of their financial circumstances.”

Year of Scholarly Values launch event

This Thursday, join the kickoff event for the Year of Scholarly Values, the campuswide theme for the 2024-25 academic year. The virtual session will feature an introduction by Chancellor Howard Gillman and a panel discussion led by Duncan Pritchard, Distinguished Professor of philosophy. Panelists are Richard Arum, vice provost for teaching and learning and professor of sociology and education; Michael Dennin, professor of physics and astronomy; and Julia Lupton, Distinguished Professor of English. Vaccination policy reminder

To support the health and well-being of UC Irvine students, faculty and staff, as well as our local community, the University of California Policy on Vaccination Programs requires employees to attest to having received the 2024-25 influenza (flu) vaccination and the 2024-25 COVID-19 vaccination – or to officially decline the vaccinations. The deadline for the COVID-19 vaccination is Dec. 6.

Gavin Herbert Eye Institute ophthalmologist Soroosh Behshad restored the sight of Eugene Diaz, a cycling veteran of 200 double-century rides who feared he'd lose his vision and his active lifestyle.

UCI Student Health Center medical director highlights campus health centers

Did you know that the nine UC student health centers provided primary or urgent care services to more than 87,000 students during the 2022-23 academic school year? Dr. Albert Chang, medical director of the UCI Student Health Center and chair of the UC Student Health Services Medical Directors Working Group, recently spoke about the importance of campus health centers. “We know the UC student health center is the medical home for so many students,” Chang said. “With access and a commitment to student-centered care at the core of our healthcare delivery, we’re proud to offer the full range of sexual and reproductive healthcare services … at our student health centers.”
