Dolly Parton’s hit musical brings an entertaining message of equality

9 to 5: The Musical graphic

Based on the 1980 Dolly Parton film, “9 to 5: The Musical” will take the stage from Nov. 21 to 24 at the Irvine Barclay Theatre. The story brings audiences a humorous yet potent commentary on gender equality, pay equity and workplace fairness. Directed and choreographed by Myrona DeLaney, professor of teaching in musical theater, the show features three women who unite to take on their sexist boss. “‘9 to 5: The Musical’ is an important story for our time,” DeLaney said. “Too often, the modern workplace is mired in outdated norms. This production is both a tribute to the women who fought for workplace rights and a reminder that we still have work to do.”
