According to a nationwide poll, 89 percent of American adults were overwhelmed by holiday concerns such as not having enough money, missing loved ones and anticipating family conflict. In this episode of The UCI Podcast, Naomi Tabak, a licensed and board-certified clinical psychologist and director of UC Irvine’s Psychological Services Center, gives tips on how to manage holiday stress at a time of year when self-care is crucial.

UC Irvine has joined 471 campuses in being named a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting. The honor highlights all the intentional campus achievements in 2024 to institutionalize nonpartisan democratic engagement to increase student voter engagement. Zot! Zot! Zot!

Winter co-worker experience survey launches today

The survey provides co-workers an opportunity to share about their experiences working at UC Irvine and UCI Health. It is being sent to a random sample of employees, who will receive an email from Gallup on Dec. 2. The survey can also be accessed using this survey link; UCINetID and password are required. If you have been selected, the survey will open for you. If not, you will be included in the random selection process for a future survey. UC awards $6 million to research aimed at reducing cancer among firefighters

State funding through the University of California will advance research aimed at reducing cancer and cancer risk among firefighters. Eight research teams – including one from UC Irvine – are receiving a total of $6 million through the California Firefighter Cancer Prevention and Research Program, established in 2023 by the State legislature. The UC Irvine study is headed by Veronica Vieira, a professor of environmental & occupational health, and Derek Biering, captain at the Orange County Fire Authority.

Through Dec. 14, the UC Irvine Police Department will accept donations of new, unwrapped toys and teddy bears on behalf of children ages 14 and younger at UCI Health and other local children’s organizations. Donations accepted at these locations: UC Irvine Police Department front desk. University Hills Community Center, the Student Center Information Center, the UCI Health Douglas Hospital lobby, the UCI Health Joe C.
