Mens’ basketball wins top seed in National Invitation Tournament |
UC Irvine’s top-seeded men’s basketball team will host Northern Colorado on Wednesday, March 19, in the National Invitation Tournament for a first-round game inside the Bren Events Center. The game will start at 7 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN+. The Anteaters make their third consecutive postseason appearance in the NIT after earning an at-large bid in 2024. They enter the postseason tournament with a 28-6 overall record under 15-year head coach Russell Turner, the most wins since the 2018-19 season (31-6). The 28 wins mark the 15th 20-win season in program history, third straight and 10th under the helm of Turner. This will be the third meeting in program history between the Anteaters and the Bears and the first since January 1997. |

Graduating medical students await Match Day |
Match Day is a nationwide event held each March that celebrates the moment future physicians learn the residency programs to which they’ve been “matched” – and where they’ll first practice as doctors. While graduating medical students at UC Irvine won’t earn their M.D.s till May, this year’s participants, including (above, from left) Cassandra Smith, Konnor Davis and Kathleen Powers, will gather outside the Medical Education Building at 8 a.m. on March 21, waiting for their names to be called and the envelopes containing the fateful information to be opened. |

After retiring as an air traffic controller, Blaine Bowman had a simple plan: to take up cycling again. One day, at the end of a 28-mile ride, he began feeling faint and his vision darkened. After having open-heart surgery to fix a leaky mitral valve, Bowman worked with the UCI Health Cardiac Rehabilitation Program to rebuild his heart health. Now the cyclist is easily breaking his old records. “I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of the surgery and the amazing level of care I’ve received from everyone at UCI Health.” |

Anteater credits computer science class with jump-starting her business career |
| | By the time Catlin Tran graduated from UC Irvine in 2023 with a degree in business economics, she already had the idea behind Nutripair, the food-tracking app that allows users to find grocery recommendations, recipe suggestions and even local menu options that best fit their dietary needs. It all started with a computer science entrepreneurship course taught by computer science professor Ramesh Jain, which Tran almost dropped before eventually winning the class pitch contest. “‘You’re staying until the very end,’” Tran recalls Jain telling her. “And that small push was all I needed. He gave me the confidence to think of myself as an entrepreneur before I even realized that’s what I wanted to be.” |
