UC Irvine’s newest student housing facility, the five-story Oso Tower, offers 424 undergraduate beds in suite-style quads and a new community center for first-year students. It aims to create a place of comfort and connection rooted in nature. Oso Tower was partially funded with a $65 million grant from California’s Higher Education Student Housing Grant Program. With the revenues from this project, UC Irvine will provide 486 student housing grants each totaling $3,870. Oso Tower is fully occupied for the fall, and students will begin moving in tomorrow. |

Grant to lead dementia study |
With an $18 million, five-year grant from the National Institute on Aging, UCI MIND researchers will lead a multi-center study on dementia. Ahmad Sajjadi, study lead and associate professor of neurology, said this study will advance efforts to develop accurate diagnostic tools for LATE (limbic predominant age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy) and lay the foundation for recruiting participants into future clinical trials targeting the disease. The funding comes amid delays and threatened cuts to the National Institutes of Health budget. “Securing this major grant during these challenging times is a testament to the importance of the proposed study and to the outstanding track record of our team at UC Irvine and our collaborators,” said Joshua Grill, director of UCI MIND. #StandUpForUC #SpeakUp4Science |
