Climate Collaboration inaugural team project grants

Five interdisciplinary projects address climate resilience, wildfire risk, drought detection and natural infrastructure adaptation

The Climate Collaboration has announced the recipients of its inaugural team project grants for 2025-26. The grants support five research teams that are tackling climate-related challenges in California and beyond. “Through these projects, we aim to showcase UC Irvine’s capacity for team-based, solutions-driven research while fostering exciting new learning opportunities for students,” said Brett Sanders, director of the Climate Collaboration and Chancellor’s Professor of civil & environmental engineering and urban planning & public policy.

Genitourinary syndrome of menopause

Many menopausal and post-menopausal women experience vaginal dryness and pain that occurs along with the drop in their estrogen levels. These are symptoms of a common condition called genitourinary syndrome of menopause. GSM may worsen without treatment, says UCI Health urogynecologist Dr. Carly Crowder, who frequently sees patients experiencing these symptoms at UCI Health Urogynecology Services. Fortunately, she says, there are treatments. Topical medications containing estrogen can halt and even reverse many GSM symptoms.
