Trusted care in every community

Sarah McBane, UC Irvine health sciences clinical professor and associate dean of pharmacy education

In honor of National Pharmacist Day today, we’re highlighting the vital role pharmacists play in keeping communities healthy – sometimes as the most accessible and trusted healthcare professionals patients encounter. From managing chronic conditions and delivering lifesaving vaccinations to closing gaps in care for underserved populations, pharmacists are doing far more than filling prescriptions. To explore how the profession is evolving and how future pharmacists are being prepared to lead, professor Sarah McBane (above) and Pharm.D. student Tanya Nguyen discuss education, access and pharmacy’s expanding role.

To make the campus as inclusive as possible during emergencies, Emergency Management has installed evacuation stair chairs in every multistory academic and administrative building. All students, staff and faculty can learn how to use these chairs during an emergency. The training is in two parts: an e-course, followed by an in-person, hands-on session. The next in-person training sessions are Feb. 11, May 13, Aug. 12 and Nov. 11, with drop-in attendance between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. All training will be held in the EHS conference room. For more information about the evacuation stair chairs and/or the training, visit the Emergency Management website or email Dilon Reynolds at dilonr@uci.edu.
