UC Irvine has received its first award from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health, launching a major effort to improve how doctors detect and treat diseases of the lymphatic system. “This award gives us the opportunity to assess the lymphatic system in ways that haven’t been possible before,” said Sabee Molloi, professor of radiological sciences. “Our goal is to make diagnosis more precise and treatment decisions more informed, without putting additional burden on patients.”

Join UC Irvine’s Langson Museum for a dynamic slate of exhibitions opening this February and on view through spring. At the Irvine gallery, “At Home in Sunlight: A State in Motion, 1897–1940” explores California during a pivotal era of growth and reinvention, seen through the eyes of artists who made the state their home. Also on view is a two-part group exhibition examining Southern California’s built environment, infrastructure and power structures, featuring newly acquired works by UC Irvine alum Ruben Ochoa alongside pieces from the museum’s permanent collection. At the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, “Sophie Calle: Overshare” – the first North American survey of the celebrated French artist – examines intimacy, surveillance and self-disclosure in contemporary life. Also on view, “Steve Roden: wandering” invites visitors into a quiet, poetic practice shaped by walking, listening, chance and time. Enjoy free admission at both locations, free parking at Irvine, complimentary art-making workshops and artist and curator talks, with easy access via the free Museum Connect shuttle. Wireless transceiver rivaling fiber-optic speed

An AI rendering of a new silicon chip transceiver invented at UC Irvine

UC Irvine researchers have invented an ultrafast and energy-efficient silicon chip transceiver that relies on a unique mix of analog and digital technologies. “We call this technology a ‘wireless fiber patch cord,’ because it offers the blistering speed of fiber optics without the physical cables,” said Payam Heydari, Chancellor’s Professor of electrical engineering & computer science. “By operating in the F-band – a frequency range well above current 5G standards – we can offer massive bandwidths that will transform how machines, robots and data centers communicate.” Funding from the Department of Defense Microelectronics Commons program helped support the work. #SpeakUp4Science
